Comedy Legend Dead at 86

Legendary comedian and composer Tom Smothers has passed away.

A statement issued by Tom’s family confirmed the comedian’s passing, revealing that the 86-year-old passed away following a battle with cancer.

“Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner,” Dick Smothers said in a statement given to the National Comedy Center.

“I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years.

Our relationship was like a good marriage – the longer we were together, the more we loved and respected one another. We were truly blessed.”

Tom was one half of the comedy group, the Smothers Brothers. His younger brother, Dick, made up the other half. They were best known for their “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.”

Our hearts break for the Smothers family. This is a developing story.
